here is a mind map of ideas that I've thought would be a perfect topic to research and go ahead with making it the main focus of my FMP. im going to make a relevance tree next to see which topic could be the most interesting and relevant when making my FMP so that my research can be connected to media.

Short Film Planning: 20/01/25
for my short film im wanting to an action scene scenario with everyone in it using finger guns to create a fun but serious standoff shootout scene that will end with a final showdown against a protagonist and antagonist. I have an idea that the whole scene will revolve around a dispute about acquiring a book and that what ensues is a massive imaginary shootout with music in the background to showcase the the intensity. the main bulk of my short film idea is inspired by a scene from the tv show Spaced which was made by Edgar wright whose films im looking at for research on my FMP and my short film will take inspiration from some of his work.
Short Film Desription and Script Planning:
My Short film will open in a college classroom and the camera will focus on both on a guy named Gary whose a college student and is obssed with this book that he always keeps on him at all time which as the camera showcases he is very attached to. He puts the book down and goes to continue his work on his computer, a shot showcasing the passage of time will take place and at this point we see the garys friend danny telling him to keep focus and to stop holding on to that book so much as he thinks its making him a bit crazy. Later on when the book is missing Gary then starts to think someone has stolen it then we see the camera focus start to change and the whole college starts to go against gary by shooting him to prevent him to leave he then plucks ups the courage and fights back shooting finger guns t anyone in his ways and makes his way quickly but carefully through and out of the building he is in to confront his enemy. When he confronts his enemy who he calls the O man the have a standoff which ends with Gary brutally holding the O man threatening him and asking him. Where his book is in which the whole short film will end with Danny coming on screen in the background and telling Gary that he had his book the whole time and then questions what he is doing and what led him to this moment.
(O Man) why would you fight for what's important books are nothing
(Gary) Oh yeah well playtimes over
the camera then pauses the action ad flashes back to 1 day ago were we see how the action developed over the dispute of a single book.
Scene 2 Morning Mid-Day
(INT) college classroom
We Focus on a shot of young adult intensively reading a book we then see someone walk behind him
(dan) ‘’Morning Angle’’
(Gary) ‘’Huh? What did you say Danny?
(dan) ‘’I said morning Gary’’
(Gary) Oh, Ok well good morn
(Dan) So? How’s the hand?
(gary) What did you say?
(dan) I said hows the book?
(Gary) oh yea its good almost complete
(Dan) honestly mate that book and you are insuperable and don’t you think its making you a bit mental
(Gary) Hmmm NAH!
(Dan) well im just saying cus every time im talking to you that book takes priority
(Gary) she’s my crown jewel man it’s a SACRED TEXT.
(Dan) Ok mate at least’s it not the end of the world
Scene 3 (int) Mid-day
A mysterious figure lurks behind Gary as he snatches his book when he is not looking
(O Man) HA! Reading this crap again why don’t you try out movies there way better than this Rubbish
(Gary) HEY! If it weren’t for books being a thing movies would not get made and keep your hands of my precious
(Dan) just calm down mate he doesn’t mean any harm by it
(O Man) Yea im only messing around with ya
(Gary) God I hate O Man honestly next time I see him hes dead
(Dan) don’t you think your being a bit harsh on some people I mean all he did was just grab it plus nothing’s going to happen to it.
(Gary) you don’t get it mate this book is valuable ive got to keep it well protected and close to me I NEED TO FINISH IT.
Scene 4 (Int) Corridor Mid-day
The camera transitions to the two friends having a heated discussion
(Dan) Gary you have to understand you cant always punch your way out of problems
(Gary) I prefer to shoot realistically!
(Dan) That’s the problem your too fixated on your book and video games to care about your emotions towards others
(Gary) I keep my emotions in check I mean seriously when have I ever seemed rude to you
(Dan) a few times actually
(Gary) ahh well you know I didn’t mean any of it
(dan) its pointless arguing with you
(Gary) WTF man
(Dan) Sort You F*****g life out mate
Scene 5 (int) midday it’s the next day and the two friends continue to work when Gary starts to hear things and we see hes alone and then the camera shifts to showcase a hand grabbing the book and snatching it away from Gary without him seeing. He notices and then starts to question the situation.
(Gary) My book? Wheres it gone.
In the distance the audience and Gary both hear and distant laughter coming from outside the classroom
(Gary) O Man YOU MOTHER…
Two thugs suddenly rise from behind the tables and computers and start firing at gary whilst a slow motion gun fight ensues with gary ducking behind the tables for cover.
Gary then proceeds to fire back at the thugs whislt miraculously dodging the onging gun fire and takes both of the thugs out
(Gary) Just Get a doctor and deal with it Mother F*****
Scene 6 (int)
What follows is an action sequence with the hot fuzz theme blaring in the background and gary having to fight of against a group of mercenaries hired to gun him down to prevent him catching up to his nemesis O Man. The scene starts in the classroom with two people trying to gun down Gary as he miraculously ducks behind the tables and chairs and starts to fire back. We then follow him from the classroom into the corridor and then outside the building hes in which were he faces of against his nemesis in a one on one dual standoff the whole scene involves people shooting each other with finger guns and making the sound effects and motions of being shot and shooting and reloading guns.
Scene 7 (ext) afternoon
(Gary) O MAN! Give up the book ive beaten all your lackies
(O Man) You think Im going to back down from a fight
(Gary) lets Boo Boo
What follows is a final boss type situation with gary and O man firing shots at each othe and gary ducks behind a wall trying to fire back and stay protected
(O Man) I NEED MORE BULLETS! I NEED MORE BULLETS!
An Ammunition Guy provides O Man with extra ammo
(O Man) thanks my friend
(gary) I wont give up till you give my book back
(O Man) I aint giving you nothing
Gary Charges at O man in slow motion and grab him by the neck and at gun point
(Gary) Playtimes Over
Scene 8: (ext) Day
Dan walks in on the scenario to see a nervous O man and Gary threatening him
(Dan) Gary what the hell are you doing
(Gary) O man stole my precious now he has to pay
(Dan) are you mental ive had your ook this whole time I asked you if I could borrow it and you said Yarp which im guessing meaned yes
(Gary) uh I don’t remember that
(dan) look just put him down and why don’t we just forgot all about today and wait for all this to blow over whatcha say.
(Gary) Perfick
This is going to be where the film starts as the audience are put in the middle of a heated battle between two guys fighting over a book and shooting guns at each with their fingers and hands our protagonist Gary charges at his foe and then we flashback to the previous day
Scene 2:
We meet Gary and his mate danny who are college students and both love films and books however gary is getting a bit too overprotective of his book as his friend greets him and gary seems to shrug of the fact he ignores his friend and also constantly resorts to outbursts and violent scuffles with any one who goes near him and his book .
Scene 3:
The scene that follows shows us the antagonist from earlier who gary calls O – man who constantly nags gary for reading books and teases him by saying books are better which riles up gary into wanting to fight his nemesis.
Scene 4:
After class Gary and danny have a heated discussion in the corridor as danny tells Gary to stop being so aggressive towards people and that he should especially sort out his life.
Scene 5:
The next day comes around and everything is normal until Gary notices his book is stolen without him seeing which then sends him on a mission to retrieve it however he is ambushed by two thugs who start shooting him from across the class he ducks beneath his table and fires back taking them out allowing him to move on
Scene 6:
This is were the action picks up as Gary is fighting against thugs sent to kill him as he hear evil laughter coming from the distance and he shoots his way out of the building through the corridor and to the stairs down to face his nemesis.
Scene 7:
We find Gary back where the story had him at the beginning facing his nemesis in the alley and the fight continues where it left off and we see both Gary and O man let rip on each other with their arsenal of guns. Gary then gets the upper hand and has O man by the throat with his arm holding him in place when.
Scene 8:
Danny finds Gary and questions what he is doing to O man and consoles him that he took his book and that he just went nuts for some reason and is now threatening O man who has done nothing. The two friends then walk off saying that they are going to forget that this ever happened.
